The Eternal God We Serve 🙌

Psalm 90:1–2
“Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”
Psalm 90:1–2
Life changes fast, doesn’t it? ⏳
Schedules shift. Seasons come and go. Kids grow up. Our bodies get tired. Things that once felt steady can suddenly feel uncertain. We do our best to keep everything together, but deep down, we all know how fragile life can feel. 💭
That is exactly why this truth matters so much.
In a world where everything seems to change, we need to know the God who never does. ✨
If your heart has felt unsettled by how uncertain life can be, this message is for you. You do not just need a little inspiration or a better way to cope. You need a bigger view of God. The more clearly you see who He is, the steadier your soul can become. 🙏
Psalm 90 lifts our eyes upward and reminds us of this powerful truth:
Because God is eternal and unchanging, He alone is worthy of our trust and worship.
God stands above time 🕰️
Psalm 90 reminds us that before anything existed, God already was.
Moses writes, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world…” Before the earth had shape, before the mountains stood tall, before creation itself existed, God was there. 🌎
That means God is not part of creation. He is not just one more being within the universe. He is the Creator of it all. He existed before all things and stands above all things. 👑
Then the text says, “from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” Everything we know has a beginning. Most things we know also have an ending. But not God. He is not simply older than everything else. He is eternal. He has no beginning and no end. ♾️
And because He is eternal, He is not limited by time the way we are.
We live by clocks, calendars, deadlines, and the constant reminder that time keeps moving. But God is never rushed, never late, never surprised, and never overwhelmed. He is not trying to catch up. He never has to. 🙌
Every person’s life fits somewhere on the timeline of history. Every nation, generation, and empire fits on that line too. But God does not fit on the line at all.
He created the line.
That truth speaks deeply to those of us who are constantly trying to keep everything under control. If that is where you are right now, you can stop carrying what was never meant to rest on your shoulders. The God you serve already holds every moment of your life in His hands. 🤲
God remains the same forever 🪨
At the end of Psalm 90:2, Moses says, “thou art God.”
Not “thou wast God.”
Not “thou wilt become God.”
But “thou art God.”
He is always fully and perfectly Himself. His holiness never fades. His wisdom never weakens. His truth never shifts. His power never diminishes. The God who is God has always been God and will always be God. ✨
Psalm 90:1 also says, “Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.”
That phrase matters. Generations come and go. Cultures shift. Nations rise and fall. Families change. Circumstances change. But through it all, God has remained faithful. He has been steady in every generation. 📖
People change. Promises get broken. Feelings rise and fall. Strength runs out. But God does none of those things.
Because God does not change, His Word remains sure.
Because God does not change, His promises remain true.
Because God does not change, His purposes will stand. ✅
Life often feels like shifting shadows. One moment feels bright, and the next feels uncertain. But with God there is no shadow of turning. He is never altered by changing conditions. 🌤️
That means when your emotions are all over the place, when your week has been hard, and when your confidence feels shaky, you do not have to measure God by your feelings.
You can anchor your soul in who He always is. ⚓
God is our sure refuge 🏠
Psalm 90:1 says, “Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place.”
That is such a comforting truth. Moses points us first to a Person, not a place. God Himself is the shelter, safety, and home of His people. 💙
Our safety is not ultimately found in money, health, routines, comfort, or even the people we love. Those things may be gifts from God, but they were never meant to carry the full weight of our souls.
God alone is our true refuge. 🙏
And Moses says He has been that dwelling place “in all generations.” No generation has ever outgrown its need for God. No generation has ever found Him lacking. The same God who sustained His people in the past is the same God who sustains His people now. 🌿
Psalm 90 also reminds us how brief and fragile life really is. Man returns to dust, but God remains forever.
Health can fail.
Money can disappear.
People can disappoint.
Strength can run out.
But the eternal God never collapses. He is the only refuge strong enough for life, death, and eternity. 🔒
When storms come, people do not look for something pretty. They look for something strong. In the same way, when life begins to shake, we do not need shallow comfort. We need a refuge that can actually hold us.
And God can. Always. ⛅
If you have been leaning on temporary things to feel secure, stop asking those things to do what only God can do. Run to Him as your sure refuge. 🏃♂️💨
A steady heart in a changing world ❤️
Fanny Crosby lost her sight as a baby, yet her life became a testimony of deep confidence in God. Instead of being defined by what she lacked, she wrote hymns full of assurance, joy, and trust in the Lord. 🎵
That is what happens when a soul is anchored in the eternal God.
Hardship may still be real. Loss may still be painful. Life may still be uncertain. But the heart can remain steady because its refuge is not in changing circumstances, but in the God who never changes. 🌅
That is the kind of stability Psalm 90 sets before us.
Because God stands above time, remains the same forever, and is our sure refuge, He alone is worthy of our trust and worship.
A final call 📣
Stop resting your heart on what changes, and place your full trust in the eternal God who never does. 🤍
And if you have never trusted Christ, come to Him today.
You are not saved by church attendance, morality, or effort. You are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who died for your sins and rose again. Turn from your sin and place your trust in Him. ✝️
And believer, if you know this God, then trust Him, worship Him, and run to Him as your sure refuge.
He is eternal.
He is unchanging.
And He is worthy. 🙌
